Get it now: '''[[https://slicc.eu/download Download SLICC]]''' — compatible racks and cartridges for your host platform. <br />
For developers and integrators, see the '''[https://github.com/DCEM/slicc/blob/main/spec/slicc-spec.md SLICC Specification]'''.

<span id="what-is-slicc"></span>
== What is SLICC? ==

'''SLICC''' is an open framework that extends existing storage systems through 3D-printable cartridges that are:<br />
'''Slotted, Lidded, Interlocking, Compact (high-granularity), and Color-Coded.'''

Designed for anyone who needs compact, spill-proof, easily labeled, color-coded, and transport-safe storage for small parts.

SLICC works as a '''two-part system''':

* '''Cartridges:''' Slotted, lidded, labeled, and color-coded modular containers.
* '''Racks:''' Host adapters that let cartridges fit precisely into your chosen '''host platform'''.

<blockquote>'''Note:'''<br />
Cartridges and Racks are ''host platform-specific''.<br />
Pick your '''Host Platform''' (e.g., ''Festool Organizer'', ''Gridfinity''). Some platforms support multiple '''Height Classes''' (e.g., ''H6'', ''H9'').<br />
Within each class, select the '''Family''', which defines the width geometry, such as ''W1'', ''W1.5'', or ''W2''.
</blockquote>
Currently, SLICC integrates with '''Festool Organizers''' and '''Gridfinity''', but the concept is adaptable to almost any modular storage solution.

<span id="naming--terminology"></span>
== Naming &amp; Terminology ==

* '''Host Platform:''' the original storage system that SLICC extends<br />
→ e.g., ''Gridfinity'', ''Festool Organizer''
* '''Class:''' identifies the vertical (height) grouping within a platform<br />
→ e.g., ''H6'', ''H9''
* '''Family:''' defines the '''width-based''' SLICC geometry compatible with a specific host platform and class<br />
→ e.g., ''W1'', ''W1.5'', ''W2'' families for ''Gridfinity H9''

<blockquote>Racks of different '''Families (width)''' within the same platform and class fit the same host platform,<br />
but their '''cartridges are not cross-compatible.'''
</blockquote>
For the current list of available families, see '''[[../families|SLICC Families]]'''

<span id="slicc-principles"></span>
== SLICC Principles ==

Each letter in '''SLICC''' represents a core design principle - the foundation of the framework:

<span id="slotted"></span>
=== Slotted ===

* '''Cartridges interlock with the rack''', staying secure - even if neighboring cartridges are removed.
* '''Rack geometry keeps lids closed''' for passive security.

<span id="lidded"></span>
=== Lidded ===

* All cartridges come '''with lids'''.
* '''Standard cartridges:'''<br />
Sliding lid with integrated end-click stop - no lost lids.
* '''SMD cartridges:'''<br />
Small, lidded compartments (with hinges) secured by a larger locking lid with snap closures.

<span id="identifiable"></span>
=== Identifiable ===

* Every cartridge has a '''dedicated label zone''' sized for standard labels:<br />
'''2U:''' 6mm, '''3U:''' 9mm, '''4U:''' 12mm, etc.
* '''Easy to scan and organize''' - find the right part at a glance.

<span id="compact"></span>
=== Compact ===

* '''Vertical layout''' with fine-grained slot spacing gives you just the right box size - no wasted space.
* Mix subdivided cartridges (e.g., 12-compartment SMD) and larger ones for bigger parts - all fit the same rack.
* '''Rack width matches parent system’s grid units''' - perfect integration, no dead space.

<span id="color-coded"></span>
=== Color-Coded ===

* '''Filament channel''' for snap-in color coding
* Change colors anytime, no need to reprint.
* Or obviously print in multiple colors.

<span id="why-slicc"></span>
== Why SLICC? ==

I built SLICC because no other system truly met my needs:

* Other options (like Gridfinity) are great, but small parts still spill, and outside containers require massive, time consuming prints, if they fit on the bed at all.
* Off-the-shelf storage lacked the modularity, labeling, and flexibility I needed.
* '''Festool Organizers''' (especially the SYS3-SORT/3) are almost perfect - sturdy, transparent, interlockable, and with drawers - It just wasn't SLICC enough ;)
